Two day Training Program on Advance Methods of Mechanical Testing using Universal Testing Machine (UTM) at High-Temperature and Controlled Environment will be organised on 27-28th August 2026 at the Seminar Hall, SATHI, IIT Kharagpur campus.
4 days Hands-on Workshop was conducted on “Transformation of Workplace To Global Standards” by Mr. Hemendra Varma, Director, 5S Institute and an alumni of IIT Kharagpur (BT/ME/Patel/1972) and Mr. Abhijit Varma.

Today’s inaugural session began with a warm welcome from Prof. Rahul Mitra, Chairman, followed by an inspiring address from Prof. Rabibrata Mukherjee, Dean SRF and Founder Chairman of SATHI, who shared the rich history of the facility and encouraged everyone to actively engage in the sessions. Prof. Tapas Laha, Co-convener of the program and Prof. Debabrata Pradhan, Prof-in-Charge HRTEM was also present.
Technical Session 1: Prof. Purushottam Chakraborty (Former Sr. Professor, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata) delivered a lucid, detailed presentation on the core science and applications of ToF-SIMS.
Technical Session 2: Dr. Gabriele Di Stadio (Scientist, ULVAC-PHI, Japan) walked us through fascinating real-world case studies.
Lab Session: Participants translated theory into practice with a hands-on live demo in the lab.
It is fantastic to see such active collaboration between academia and industry, with participants including research scholars from various IIT Kharagpur departments, scientists from CSIR-CGCRI (Kolkata), and professionals from TITAN Company Limited (Bengaluru).
